  GLOBAL INTERNATIONAL WATERS ASSESSMENT
and
GESAMP MARINE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENTS

PRELIMINARY BIBLIOGRAPHY OF ASSESSMENTS AND INFORMATION SOURCES

This preliminary bibliography is intended to illustrate the assessments and resources presently available in support of a broad international waters assessment process.  It makes no pretence to be complete, but is all that could be assembled with the time and resources available. In particular, literature in languages other than English is very poorly represented.  References to both printed and electronic sources are arranged by geographic regions defined by the Global International Waters Assessment (GIWA) Expert Group, with references listed in reverse order of date of publication, to show how up-to-date information is in each region.  The bibliography was generated from a database of references described by geographic and subject codes and key words corresponding to the structure agreed for GIWA, as a subset of a larger database and document collection maintained by the UN System-wide Earthwatch Coordination unit of UNEP in Geneva in support of various marine and international waters assessment processes under the joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection (GESAMP).

To search the full bibliography by any word, use your browser to search this page. You can use Edit:Find in page (Ctrl + F) in Navigator, or Edit:Find (on This Page), also accessible by pressing Ctrl +F, in Explorer. Failing that, there is a search engine which will search the entire website available on our homepage.

A data entry tool to facilitate extension and use of the bibliographic database by experts around the world working on the assessment is in the final stages of development.
