Need to Increase the Visibility of IGOS

Many IGOS-P issues need to be planned and co-ordinated beyond the 6-month cycle of IGOS-P Chairmanship.

IGOS-P Themes need the long-term support of the international community to help achieve our goals 

To develop a Partners' strategy to raise the profile of IGOS/IGOS-P with the aim of gaining the necessary support.

Proposed Specific Targets

1. Following the efforts of GCOS and UNEP, strengthen links between IGOS-P and secretariats of environmental conventions 

2. Encourage support for IGOS and IGOS-P activities through raised profile in relevant fora by:
- adoption of decisions at SBSTA/COP 
- adoption of a Report at Rio+10 etc.
- side events 

3. Raise public awareness of IGOS-P's achievements through the media and publications etc. 

Unique opportunities on the horizon

Participation of own ministries/agencies in relevant meetings is recommended. 

IGOS-P should seek ways to present its position effectively at these events. 

A new IGOS brochure should be produced.
- Our Current brochure needs updating to show progress of theme activities.
- Message must be conveyed widely to participants at events and media, NGOs etc.
