Works of Mark Tobey from the Dahl Collection
Mark Tobey: untitled, no date (1930s). Oil
This painting, reflecting Tobey's style for spiritual themes in the 1930s, is of uncertain provenance. It was found in a pillowcase in Joyce Dahl's closet after her passing, and has Mark Tobey written on the back of the frame. It could have been among the things Joyce Dahl inherited from Dr. Mildred Nicholls, a close Bahá'í friend of both Tobey and the Dahls who died without heirs, to whom Tobey is known to have given a painting years before.
